Запуск новой Mazda RX перенесен на более поздний срок
Sports car project from Mazda postponed indefinitely due to financial constraints
Mazda's development of a new-generation sports coupe featuring a rotary engine has been postponed indefinitely, as confirmed by the company's technical director, Ryuichi Umesita, in an interview with British magazine Autocar. The company is committed to the idea of eventually releasing such a model.
Currently, the focus for funding is on the new range of SkyActive-Z piston engines, a modular platform for electric vehicles, and hybrid drive systems. This year, Mazda has significantly reduced its plans to shift from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to electric cars, opting instead for a balanced approach that includes various drive types.
Several years ago, Mazda revived its rotary engine design department, and their primary goal is to adapt the rotary engine to meet carbon dioxide emissions standards. The working technology that will enable the rotary engine to drive the wheels rather than just function as a generator recharging hybrid batteries is expected to be developed over the next two to three years.
The latest achievement from Mazda in the rotary engine field is a hybrid transmission installed on an experimental liftback, which was showcased at the recent Tokyo auto show. This system combines a two-rotor rotary engine with an electric motor, producing a total output of 510 hp. It also features a unique system for capturing carbon dioxide from the exhaust to prevent its release into the atmosphere and allow for its further use.
In closing, Umesita emphasized that sports cars are the essence of Mazda Motor, and the company will continue to explore developments in this area.
